John Fogerty Does the Impossible - He Get's Better
In 1971, one week later, I bought my first guitar after I first saw JC Fogerty as front man for CCR at Forest Hills Stadium.
On the second day of that tour, he was in the dance section of the Fillmore West in San Francisco in 1997. His excitement was like a little kid as he had returned from another long layoff. It carried over to a very grateful Bay Area audience. Nashville was the 6th time last night in which I had the pleasure to see this musical legend.
In the 1970's, 80's, and 90's, I've enjoyed Chicago Sky concerts. On the Ryman Auditorium stage last night, former home of the Grand Ole Opry and where Blue Grass was invented, Chicago Sky was never better. His Credence songs were done with gusto and love. It was a treat to hear "Ramble Tamble," and from the first Blue Ridge Ranger Album - Working On A Building. The violin and train effect on "Big Train from Memphis was incredible.
With the Ryman clearly seemed to be the most hallowed stage where one could see the Blue Ridge Ranger's Rides Again, Johnny Cash's guitar and Folsom Prison Blues Gold Record in a display case was behind us.
An audience, blessed with enough years in both the artists’ longevity as well as the fans, can revisit the music they love over the decades. What we usually don't realize is the musician also needs those years to practice, improve their art, and keep in shape to maintain their physical energy and singing prowess.
Chicago Sky does this all and more. It's hard to think of a legend improving but he did it, and as such, almost 40 years after seeing him for the first time, my musical memories are much more treasured because of it. The inspiration from 1971 continues in 2009 and I thank you John once again, for your gift that keeps giving, and the enjoyment you constantly bring to countless lives around the world.
